3 Questions that Stumped Me

At a Phone-Free Networking event

For the past 6 months I’ve been adamant on avoiding networking events. Internally I viewed them as a waste of time. Not that they’ve been bad, but the previous several felt like drags that weren’t helping me get closer to where I want to be.

My brother’s friend Ari texted me a few weeks back about this phone-free networking event (run by Kanso) and funny enough I’m a big fan of the phone-free lifestyle. I’ve gone on 72 hour phone fasts before (Utah 2023 most recently) and on about a weekly basis I do a morning without my phone or literally turning off my phone for a 3-4 hour block during the day to focus. I’m secretly quite passionate about the topic

Another phone hack for me is keeping my phone out of the bedroom… and essentially out of arms reach until I leave the apartment for the day. Buy an Alexa to use for your alarm if that’s an issue.

Tonight I attended a networking event and the second I walked in a group of 5 stared at me in the face. I knew something was up, but didn’t know what. So I approached them, said hi, and the person to the left of me goes:

“what is the legacy you want to leave behind”

I mean what a way to start the night.

But before I give my answer to this question, take a second and think about it for yourself.

Keep thinking. Don’t read more until you’ve thought about it for yourself

Did you think about it? Maybe even type out the answer and leave it in the comments! Or reply to me if you’re feeling less brave…

Let’s go back to the moment I was blasted with the question. While I was caught off guard, I felt like I was quite prepared to answer that question. It took me about 30-45 seconds to even get a word out — went some thing along the lines of:

Seek out your ambitions. If you want to do something, do it. Don’t just keep it within. Share that moment and experiences with others. When I say others, publicly (of course within reason) — if you could inspire just one person to break out of their rut or make one person laugh in bed at night, you did the right thing.

Next question: do you have any regrets?

One person said no, one person shrugged. This was a cakewalk for me: I 100% have regrets no doubt about it.

Yes, all my regrets stem from not taking action when I wanted something to happen. These important actions I took (or inactions) were not aligned with my intentions.

Final question: if money and time were of no consequence, what would you do all day?

I would buy and sell high-end produce (on a post-it note on a board).

Now I will ask you to answer these 3 questions, and please share your answers with me!

  1. What is the legacy you want to leave behind?

  2. Do you have any regrets?

  3. If money and time were of no consequence, what would you do all day?

Thanks for the read.
