4th State in 4 Nights
Currently in Maine!
Current Environment: Classical Music. Grandfather Clock Ticking. Perfect 68 Degree AC. Warm, ambient light, fresh smell.
Yesterday I was listening to a podcast about a guy who lived in the Arctic for 30 days. He had to take 3 flights to get there from Vegas (?) and he was describing all the complaints going through his head on the way there: baby crying, disgusting bathroom, rigid seats, etc.
In the Arctic, he had to carry a weapon to the bathroom to protect against wildlife, 0 access to hot running water, and extremely uncomfortable sleeping arrangements.
After 30 days in the Arctic, the most amazing thing happened on his flight back: the chair became the most comfortable thing he’s ever sat in, hot water brought out sensations he’s never felt before, and the temperature controlled plane was the best thing he’s ever encountered.
2 Days in Motels does not compare to 30 days in the Arctic. But even after the minute level of exposure to less than ideal living conditions has me appreciating the value of a nice home in the mountains. Even the couch I’m sitting on. It feels AMAZING.
The AirBNB host just walked in. I think I’m going to hang out with her and her husband momentarily so I will be brief here:
What I did today
I woke up and worked out. W
Filmed at the ice cream shop. Owner is in the profile picture. The visual ASMR is through the roof! TBH I got a sugar rush at 9:30am from accidentally having too many samples of their sweets haha
I drove to Mount Washington, and after slight trepidation paid $36 to drive up Mount Washington. Let me say my drives in Sicily and Greece were wayyy more difficult than that one. Piece of cake
Quick Burrito for Lunch
Visited a Strawberry and Pea U-Pick where I fetched a nice snack
Stopped at a Chinese Food Spot for dinner. Moo Goo Gai Pan Lunch Special that ran all day. Such a good deal. Honestly I’ve had a tough time eating enough this trip. Like I’m very hungry but Chipotles aren’t just sitting around everywhere. Steamed Chinese Food is a great hack for Macros
Booked this AirBNB in Maine.
Drove to AirBNB in Maine
Update — I did speak with the owners and the blog cut off here. I will leave you with this compilation of ideas I put together in the car on the way here.
Road Trip Tips
I’ve rented cars in 7 countries and road tripped 100 days since 2024.
Here are 10 tips I have for your next road trip
1/
You do not need to book hotels or Airbnbs in advance.
Dinner time will save the day. The hardest part is starting the trip. The rest handles itself.
Just avoid coastal cities in summer — weekdays have tons of cheap stays elsewhere.
2/
Cheap stays do mean something’s missing.
Make sure AC isn’t what’s missing when it’s hot. You will regret it.
3/
If you have FOMO, pretend you’re 350 miles away and had to fly in at night to get there.
Still have FOMO?
4/
If you’re in college, single, and want to meet girls — go on a road trip to farms in the Northeast.
(Pro tip: ~Sophomore year is best.)
5/
Chinese food will save the day if you’re eating on a budget and need macros.
Chipotle and Cava aren’t everywhere. Chinese is the cheapest access to protein and carbs.
6/
Pack lighter than you think.
I’m 4 days in and have used a third of what I packed. And I packed extremely light — Tim Ferriss style.
You can always buy clothing on the road
7/
Bring a 1-gallon water container (stainless steel if you can).
If you run out of water, you don’t want to be thirsty on the road.
8/
Take 5 minutes to configure your car at the start of the trip.
Set and forget your system for packing and unpacking the car.
9/
Choose ONE thing to document during the trip — and do it religiously.
Pick a theme. I’m documenting every place I stay. I won’t miss a stop. I won’t regret it.
10/
Prep 3 days out so deliveries arrive in time.
Don’t count on Amazon once you’re on the road. If you know you need something, don’t wait. Order it before.
Buena Noche see you tomorrow.
