A note on yesterday's blog
Regarding the Title
It’s 4:20am and something about yesterday’s blog is bothering me.
I scheduled this to send around 9am since I can only send 1 post on this platform every 12 hours
I shared a new blog I created around thought leadership / personal branding / doing meaningful work.
And the title of the first blog I shared is legit keeping me up right now. I named it “Retirement is overrated.” I’m reflecting on that title and share my thoughts below (yes the title is what’s bothering me).
As a 27 year old, I have no idea what working for 40 years and retiring and living a fruitful life is actually like. The title itself was inspired by a podcast I listened to about Daniel Ek (Founder of Spotify) regarding his experience selling one of his early companies and exiting with a boatload of money. He was “retired” and in his mid 20s and eventually felt the urge to build and now we have Spotify. Hint Hint I think he’s past doing it for the money.
The blog’s title was used as an inspiration for people closer to my age to care more about the present work they do over the idea of not working anymore. I view working as a very important and fulfilling component of life — and one thing I notice is the happiest people I meet love the work they do OR are truly retired and super proud of the career they built for themselves. I personally am fortunate to have several retired people in my family, and they are some of the happiest people I have ever met.
So I adjusted back the title to “The Camp Counselor Theory of Happiness” which better echoes what that blog is actually about.
I’m now going to attempt to fall back asleep. Wish me luck.
