Fresh and Slimy!
I haven’t slept until 8am in months. Whether I go to sleep late or early, light typically wakes me up between 6-7am. The quiet room, blackout blinds, comfortable bed, and cold air at La Quinta Inn provided the perfect environment to sleep in. Let’s go!
Hour 1 — Learn New Drone. Almost break it on first flight.
Hour 2 — Realize New Drone is Bad. Wish I had old drone back, panic order a new drone immediately. Eat Cheerios for Breakfast because rest of continental buffet was bad
Hour 3 — Go to Hotel Gym… while minimalist, I crammed in a great 30 min workout. I had to negotiate a late checkout (+10 minutes) to avoid a $20 fee. Granted and avoided.
Well that’s how the day started but things picked up quickly. The local farmer’s market happened to be on Sundays and I spent a good hour there walking around, chatting, videoing, sampling, more talking, and eventually leaving to get lunch. I was very hungry. And the most perfect place appeared in front of my eyes:
BT’s Smokehouse.
Yes I know I just had the best pork belly of my life and nothing in the world would top it.
But some BBQ spots just have that look — and you know it’s going to be incredible.
The concession I made in my head was I’ll do Smoked Chicken and avoid the fattier meats.
The lady at the register wasn’t having my smoked chicken request. To be fair my face was saying I don’t really want smoked chicken and for the extra $3 and a slab of Saturated Fat I replaced the chicken with the Brisket.
The kicker to why this BBQ experience was elite: there was a 30 minute wait after ordering.
Ordinarily, that’s annoying. But it completely changed the course of my day. I decided to drive 5 minutes back to the farmers market and see if I can squeeze some time filming on a local farm. And guess what?
Grass Fed Grass-Finished Cow Farm Booked for 3pm.
And by the time I get back to the BBQ place, the Burrito its there waiting for me, smoking hot.
First observation — the Burrito Wrap was fantastic. The place claimed it was not homemade, and though I typically hate burritos and wraps, this wrap was spot on.
Pair that with the slightly sweetened black beans, perfect textured rice, 5 options of BBQ Sauce (all amazing), 6 homemade Garnishes, and of course a juicy fatty Brisket. This lunch is the definition of “hit the spot.”
From the my bast bite of the burrito to arrival at the cow farm I had 1.5 hours. That’s enough time for me for 1-2 stops at local spots just for the fun of it.
I type in “breweries” after cooking through the local Worcester magazine and random chose this place called Tree House Brewing company.
I”m not kidding.. by far the most impressive brewery I’ve ever seen. There must have been over 350 people there, on a Sunday. The factory was massive, the sheer volume of beer being bought by customers was earth-shattering, and I’m not exaggerating. I checked Untappd to see the rating of their Julius and it’s a 4.5. Guys this is like Michellin Star Beer. I stumbled upon gold.
Of course I wanted to go into the factory area but this is not he place to let some random solo traveller due with a scruffy beard in wit his mini pocket camera for a couple shots. I want to go back and shoot there even though it would be a 4 hour drive. That’s how impressed I was by the operation. GREAT wedding spot.
And now, the clock strikes 3:00, I arrive at the cow farm. My eyes are closing as I type this so I will breeze through it. Videos everything so you’ll eventually see
We spoke for 15 minutes about Hay
We visited the Calf and she licked my hand with so much saliva when I spread my fingers the saliva would pop up between them. Cutest animal, not sure if I thought it was gross or not to have my hand licked by a cow. No bad scent though!
Walked around the fields where the 60 cows were grazing
Witnessed Cow Mating (natural). I actually got it on video lol.
Cows are cool animals
Fun shoot. Westview Farm in Woodstock, CT.
Rest of day driving. Staying with family so no complications with hotel bookings.
Computer Day next. Weather not great. Taking a quiet day as July 16th-25th will be quite intense.
