Fogtown Beer + Maine Lobster

Maine Vibes

Welcome about 10 New Readers! Given I write these daily I often find myself in a time crunch and will set a timer to write. Expect Typos (unless I disclose using AI). Images from the blog will soon be posted to @extravirginguy on all platforms.

Of course Lobster has been in every title recently — only fitting given we are in the Lobster capital of the US! More on that later…

On a strict 5 minutes for this so truncating the stories a bit.

The day started with a walk to Dunkin Donuts and back and after packing up from the very average AirBNB stay I drove an hour to Fogtown Brewery to film a video. Now that the video is filmed, some thoughts come to mind:

  • Malters are underratedly important in Beer Production

  • Hops smelt like THC (same family)

  • The video will be a very difficult edit

The coolness of the content should outweigh the difficulty and honestly that shoot reinvigorated me a bit for the rest of the day.

Lunch

  • Jamaican Food with 4.8 on Yelp. DONE obviously I’m going

  • Jerk Chicken over Curry Sauce with some pieces of Goat + samples of Jerk Pork. Chef Hooked it up.

  • I started Season 4 of the Bear

I hiked for a few hours, then immediately to dinner:

Dinner

My AirBNB host several nights prior recommended I visit Youngs Lobster Pound. I was in an interesting predicament as it was precisely 9 minutes out of the way — which weighs on me!

Best decision ever.

Look I had 1+1/4 lb Lobster + Corn for $22, which honestly given the environment was a great deal. But what put this place over the edge:

  • Lobsters boiled in saltwater from the sea

  • You are encouraged to bring your own sides

  • You see the live lobster go into the boiler (it’s not scary dw)

  • 10/10 view

  • Entertaining employees

Pretty basic day for me to this point.

2 Hour Drive to Portland. 1 Hour in I book a Hotel.

At 10:12pm I arrive at the hotel, and the host says place is sold out.

Me — “No I booked it, look:”

THE BOOKING WAS IN DRAFT

As Jocko Willink would say — Good.

Very very very very fortunately the Comfort Inn was $108 and 900 feet away. And honestly, despite a 6.2/10 rating online, I thought it was a stellar stay given the situation.

Fun Day on the Port tomorrow.
