I discovered an Old Dough-Making Machine

Finally the Pizza Shoot Happened

Today really started last night at the Yanks game. I arrive an hour late to see Aaron Judge on the screen while on the bathroom line. I decide to skip the bathroom and head to the seat. Next pitch. Out of the park.

Also no pictures today. I ran out of time.

Morning

Today I woke up, hit the gym, and hit my favorite nuts spot in the city: the Nuts Factory. 2 minute walk from the gym. It’s unfortunate everyone knows the palce for their dubai chocolate bars but the roasted nuts are truly elite (though the macadamia’s today tasted a bit older). Not to say they care about sourcing, but from a flavor standpoint on roasted nuts, spot on.

On the way to the coworking space, I called the pizza shop and fortunately got the green light to come in at 2:30 to shoot. More on that later.

Once I arrived I decided to switch my order for breakfast and dinner and I went with the ground turkey / honeynut squash / pea mix for breakfast which I loved (paired with a couple too many handfuls of mixed nuts).

Best way to describe my work this morning is I did a lot of writing about my video-making processes and improving each component. Brings me joy. You can PM me and I’d provide more detail but for the sake of the blog, let’s move onto 2:30pm where I had just subwayed back to Brooklyn and arrived at the Pizza Restaurant.

Pizza Filming

We already filmed the Fresh Mozz Making + Pizza review, but I wanted to capture the dough and sauce making. I had to wait 30 minutes for them to get ready and had a funny moment. Part of the hook of the next video includes a regular pie and I was uncomfortable asking for a pie for the prop, but finally I mustered the courage and the owner’s reaction was priceless. Facial expression that screamed “are you serious? hell yes!”

Took me an extra minute to film as I performed a ton of takes. Think I got a decent one. I only had 1 shot at the secondary take which I’d rate a 6/10. You’ll understand if you watch when the video comes out.

After this shot we headed into the basement to make some dough and sauce. Down in the basement there was a standard mixer, and I asked the owner whether that mixer was used when he started making pizza 40 years ago. That question brought us into a back dimly lit room and a dust-covered dough roller that looked like it was built in the 30s-40s. You could hear the emotion in his voice. It’s 2025 and it’s been out of commission for 15 years AND taking up valuable space in that basement. But he doesn’t want to get rid of it. Such a unique problem to have.

Random Shop Visits

Anyway over the next 20 minutes I stopped at 3 different shops to follow up on doing video. No resounding yes’s, though the pork store from the other day is just a comedy show. More old school than you’d think.

But then I had my best visit of the day: the BBQ place. I agreed to send no photos but I’m pretty damn excited about the shoot. Will have full access to their kitchen for the day. Need to figure out how I’m going to structure the video. If anyone has anything they’re curious about sned a reply. Think smoking brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, ribs, etc. Great conversation with the Chef who had just come back from Austin - which some may say is the BBQ capital of the US. Cool talk.

The Cordless Phone

After BBQ I subwayed all the way to the best camera store in the world: B&H. I’m looking either for a Go Pro or a 360 camera but the second I arrived in the section I realized I had to do more homework.

Quick funny story, religious guy was arguing about the price of the one and only cordless phone. The employee was screaming in google translate why it was so expensive. Felt like a scene in Curb. The fact that cordless phones still sell blows my mind.

Dinner was the exact picture breakfast was yesterday and yeah that’s the day.

Did anyone read to here? Reply “me” if you did!
