K-Town Walk-Around

Eating with eyes is fun

Hopping right into it. Day in the life!

This morning started bright and early with a trip to the Meat Hook and as promised in my deployment of aggressive follow up mode, I showed up at 7am to the meat shop to inquire on how the meat comes off the truck.

Against all odds it worked (I think). Apparently there needs to be insurance clearance for me to be behind the counter at a butcher shop, and the guy said it’s in motion. Would make for an amazing shoot. Will keep you updated. Fingers crossed

Then off to LifeTime and straight to the Coworking space where I had the fruits of last night meal prep: Canned Kirkland Salmon with 2 Hard Boiled Eggs, Fresh Honeynut Squash, Cooked Chickpeas, and Avocado. I only had room for half and ate the rest at 11. Also killed half that jar of pistachios throughout the day today lol.

Masala Chai

Quick story on Masala Chai. There are 3 Floors to this coworking space and they have DIY Tea. There has been an empty Masala Chai Jar for the past week and I’ve been curious when it will be refilled. I lost all hope until I ventured up to the 3rd floor to find a quiet space for a VoiceOver. And what did I find?

New Video Alert

I just dropped a new video on how this restaurant in Brooklyn makes an incredible Sourdough Pita. Like it dropped the second these emails were sent. Check it out!

I feel bad for teachers

Totally eavesdropping across the office but the fact that AI Detectors are needed these days are absolutely insane. If you’re a teacher I want to hear the horror stories

KOREATOWN

The real ones know I love K-Town, though last summer I went the wrong way on the LIRR on the way back from the US Open and accidentally ended up in Murray Hill, Queens, which I then discovered is the “real K-Town.”

Anyway my office is a minute away from K Town and I decided to go on a walk through the beautiful set of restaurants on 32nd St b/w 5th and Broadway. Here are my findings

Udon Lab

When I was in Takamatsu, Japan I had some of the best Udon of my Life. No coincidence. Place opened at 8pm at night and had a super long line.

^ I actually think this is the other udon place. Doesn’t matter. Both Fire. Tsurumuru was the good one in case you ever were in Takamatsu. You probably won’t visit there. Not many tourists.

Anyway I’m really into the whole breadmaking/pizzamaking/pastamaking world now and thought catching some homemade Udon Footage would be quite nice. Manager absent but I’ll revisit.

Also is Udon Korean? Thought it was more Japanese. I noticed as I looked a bit deeper into K-Town there was a decent Japanese Influence. Sad. Wish it was more Korean…that’s what Murray Hill (Queens) is for!

Why Capt Loui

Seafood boil does not belong in K-Town. Why is this opening

Korean Bakery

Not sure why everything is wrapped. Perhaps not made fresh that day which is a red flag. Cool looking pastries, but the canned salmon held me over quite well and I successfully resisted temptation!

Milk Bread

Also I thought milk bread is Japanese. Picture won’t upload . But anyway now that the idea is cemented in my head I may need to do a Milk Bread Video. Such a simple yet desirable treat. Let me know any recs!

Chicken & Beer

Is this ad for real?

Fake Food Outside Restaurants

So I never understood how this works. Does the restaurant order mock steak and ramen noodles? Like is there a company that specializes in this fake food thing? I’m quite curious now. If anyone has an answer please let me know. Or is it just preserved food they made.

Healthy Korean Food

They sold me on the sign and I learned it was Shabu Shabu which apparently is healthier than BBQ on the Grill. I still have my doubts

Seoul Sweets

Interior design 10/10

But what exactly is a Dubai Matcha? Are we now slapping Dubai on everything imaginable to get people in the door? I don’t like that

All you can Eat Sushi $50

You can get 40 pieces from yesterday’s lunch spot for $50. I don’t think it’s a great deal but if you disagree I’m happy to hear an argument. Nothing will ever beat the conveyor belt sushi experience I had on my last night of Japan

That’s a Wrap

Pizza filming cancelled today, hopefully will get later in the week.

More to come. Thanks for reading
