Maine Country Breakfast
Surprise!
Last night I put my Kindle Down at 11:20pm. I am 46% into the Anthony Bourdain book: Kitchen Confidential and absolutely loving it. To be frank, people for years have compared me to Bourdain in terms of exploratory personality. I have still yet to read past his journey as a chef in NYC maniacally switching jobs but I look forward to the rest of my book and see where those parallels come to life.
I’ve yet to watch a single minute of Bourdain on TV. Some may say I’m missing out…
The reason I mention my bedtime is that I’m making a slight change. I will continue to write this blog, now just a bit earlier in the day. I need to be well-rested to properly operate, and evening blogging is cutting into my sleep schedule!
Given the fact that I’m no longer super tired or trying to close the computer as I type, you may notice a slight alteration in style. By no means is this intentional — just a byproduct of the small adjustment.
Fortunately for me, even though it’s 9:58am as I write this, I’ve already had quite a full day.
Usually when I don’t walk or move around in the morning, I start to get antsy. Not this morning. No morning daylight, no morning workout.
Just Bacon, 3 Eggs Over Easy, Buttered Toast, Walnuts, Raisins, Mush Dark Chocolate Overnight Oats, Homemade Oatmeal, + Palloncino Olive Oil, Maine Maple Syrup, Apple Birch Syrup, and most importantly, the company of my AirBNB host Shirley and her partner Mac. I ate everything.
What more does one need in life than a great country breakfast?
Well, I thought the answer would be nothing, then out of left field the host’s daughter Shel rolls on by to hang out. And the craziest thing happened!
Either in yesterday’s blog or my personal notebook, I wrote how I’m not consuming enough vegetables. Yesterday’s Moo Goo Gai Pan helped fill that cup, but aside from the 6pm Chinese Lunch Special, it’s mostly meat, bread, rice, and beans in some capacity.
And this morning, after that whole breakfast, Chef Shel rolls in with a cooler worth of homemade vegetable dishes and sweets. I was laughing so hard at the fact the vegetables came to me! These types of events don’t happen very often, so it’s important to pause and enjoy it.
Little did she know I am an impassionate sampler. I go to Whole Foods and get 15 items from the Hot bar. I am obsessed with Costco samples. I even posted a video the other day of me attempting to try foods from 59 countries at the Fancy Food Show in 2 hours. Recommended watch.
One of themes of our discussion was filling the cup.
My cup this morning has been filled.
Now, it’s time to murder the day (Liquid Death Style).
