I discovered this exercise when I was more productive on a spirit airlines flight 0 legroom and a fully upright back than my Herman Millar Chair + Standing Desk Combo.

I call it Airplane Mode.

Think of this as natural Adderral.

Set Airplane Mode: 3 Simple Steps

  • Turn off internet on your computer (airplane mode)

  • Turn off internet on your phone (airplane mode)

  • Turn off TV

Set a Timer for 3 Hours.

And now do work. If you need internet for your task, then do an important task that doesn’t require internet.

Best practices

  • Assign the task in full the day before. Otherwise emotional impulse to do something will take over and instead of doing an important task, you do a task that gives you dopamine that you did that task

  • Do task first thing in the morning. BEFORE the first phone pickup. I’d suggest taking a quick walk outside then going right into it with a cup of water, coffee, or tea.

  • I’d recommend downloading music beforehand that you can work to. I like Lo-Fi Beats, Binaural Beats, Drone Therapy, or even Light EDM on Spotify

You can be 85 and retired, 16 and taking a driver’s test tomorrow, or 53 and on your 27th year at your Law Firm.

No matter the age, demographic, or life situation — you have important work that needs to get done and doesn’t require internet. It’s not rocket science.

You will thank yourself later.

My most recent task was a 6 hour video edit for my Carmine’s Pizza video coming out in a few weeks. Would have taken 12 hours with internet.
