The Impossible 5 Minute Recap
What a day
The only reason I cut this to 5 minutes is I need to go to sleep. Though I had a hell of a day.
First component was filming 3 Farmers Market Challenge — which upstate NY farmers market is best: Kingston, Hudson, or Troy. I was told at the Kingston Market that Troy blew away the others, and I can confirm Troy was quite awesome. Hudson underwhelming. Kingston underrated. There are a ton of subplots within these markets — watch the YouTube video I put out next week for them (YouTube.com/@extravirginguy).
Between the 45 minutes at each market + the driving that occupied all morning, and at this point many people would be done.
It’s 2:25pm — I had just eaten a $6 lunch that I negotiated with a Thai vendor that was done for the day (I only wanted “snack-portion” pork). I also had just walked out of a Viking-Themed Mead Brewery that apparently was nothing like their custom build brewery with real weapons hanging off the wall about 30 minutes outside the city. This place was such Liquid Death Vibes — yes I chugged a $3 can in there.
I’m sitting on a step, pretty exhausted after going from 7-2pm. Sweating through all my clothing. Camera battery dying, unclear whether I want to venture to Canada or Maine, no place to stay. Just one of those moments of “I need some direction.”
Part of me thought to stay in Troy, but that’s boring and won’t get me any further in my journey. I need to see farms!
So I decide to hit the road. I put in Bangor Maine 7 hours away knowing 0 chance I’d get there but at least wanted to go in that direction.
In the frist 20 minutes I stopped at 2 farms and was greeted with a whiff of cow poop at the first (factory farm esque — reminded me of how wagyu cows in Japan were kept). And the second had a rude cash register guy that scoffed at me when I asked him about the property. Welp.
Before I lost all hope, 1 little tiny sign popped into my face:
U-Pick Blueberries
1 Mile ————>
OBVIOUSLY I had to check that out.
I pulled in at 3pm.
I left at 6:30pm
Enough said. Again YouTube channel will tell the full story. I’ll say one thing about this experience. The ambient noise of bees and birds chirping nourishes the soul. Not kidding.
At this point, I thought my day was SUPER complete. Got a great handful of videos. new relationships, etc.
But of course I needed to eat dinner and find a place to stay. Dinner was way easier than expected. I headed towards the town of Bennington and low and behold the best possible dinner palace are up for a hungry guy looking for a quick meal:
Chipotle Mexican Grill. Ridiculously unexpected. Portions were OUT OF THIS WORLD.
And best of all after Chipotle, while heading towards my AirBNB I passed through the town of Ludlow, VT. There was a bar my brother and I visited in March named Main and Mountain. Who knew that not only would the same bartender be there and remember us, but I also got a nice view of the Okemo Mountain Fireworks.
Day is complete. I have no idea what tomorrow brings. But that’s the fun of it!
